Located on the big island of Hawaii, this home is part of a six building complex on an organic beef ranch. Located approximately 1800 ft above sea level, the home has panoramic views to the west and a general prevailing wind of around 20 mph. A series of wind breaks, modeled after the golden mean, were designed for relief. The project operates off the grid, creating its own electricity from photovoltaic panels. The expression of the roof shape echoes the natural forms of the area and collects rainwater, funneling it into cisterns and then to a man made pond. The home uses a combination of reclaimed and new materials, taking advantage of the best each has to offer.
